Manchester United fans have mocked Alexis Sanchez after 16-year-old French winger Noam Emeran was unveiled by the club using the struggling No 7's shirt number.

Highly-rated youngster Emeran confirmed on Instagram that he has joined the Red Devils from French Ligue 1 side Amiens.

His social media post showed the young winger holding a framed United shirt with 'Emeran' written above the famous No 7 jersey - which is currently being worn by Sanchez.

And United fans were quick to spot the number change on Twitter, with some suggesting the youngster would do a better job in the first XI than the former Arsenal forward.

Exciting prospect Emeran has joined United after previously being linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

On Instagram, he said: 'Happy and proud to announce my signature in this great club and big Family which is @manchesterunited.

'A big thank you to my parents, to Badou my lawyer, my loved ones and the coaches (from Sannois, Amiens and INF) who have made me grow up to this day.

'This is the beginning of a new and great adventure if God wants it.'

Alexis Sanchez meanwhile has not yet felt the rejuvenating impact of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United.

While teammates Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford among others have taken their games to a new level under the Norwegian, Sanchez continues to underwhelm.

The 30-year-old has only made three starts under Solskjaer amid injury issues and a lack of form.

He may start the FA Cup fifth round tie at Chelsea on Monday if Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard fail to recover from knocks but Solskjaer insists he is powerless to improve him.

'I can't do anything about Alexis Sanchez,' Solskjaer said.

'When he plays he needs to find himself because we know there's a quality player there.'
