Man Utd have 'clear plan' to support Amorim with further transfers

Manchester United have already identified further signings to strengthen their squad and have a "clear plan" to support Ruben Amorim, says director of football Jason Wilcox.

United are on a three-match winning streak in the Premier League, their best run since Amorim took charge last November.

Amorim's job was thought to be under major threat after the Red Devils were dumped out of the EFL Cup by fourth-tier Grimsby Town in August, while a 3-1 defeat at Brentford piled further pressure on the former Sporting CP boss.

But victories over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton have propelled United to sixth in the table, one point clear of Arne Slot's defending champions, who have lost four straight games.

From matchday three onwards, only Arsenal (16) have won more Premier League points than United's 15, while the Red Devils' 14 goals in that span are the most in the division.

United spent heavily to reconfigure their attack ahead of this season, spending over £200m on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

And Wilcox says more targets have been identified ahead of the January transfer window.

"We have got a clear plan," Wilcox told the club's website. "We know what we have got to do, we know the areas of the team that we have got to improve.

"For us to get in the top four and consistently challenge for Champions League places, win Champions Leagues, win Premier Leagues, we have got to invest in the squad.

"We have got to buy the right players. The right players who are talented but also who can deal with the pressure, who can take the squad forward."

United's minority owner Jim Ratcliffe recently suggested the club want to give Amorim three years to prove himself, and though Wilcox expects their form to dip again at some point, he says their support for the head coach cannot waver.

"We have just got to keep this going now," Wilcox said. "Not get too carried away when we win and not get too disappointed when we lose. We know we are making progress.

"I am sure there are going to be bumps in the road, but we have just got to make sure we stay calm irrespective of the noise outside."

United visit Nottingham Forest on Saturday, as they look to record their first run of four straight Premier League victories since February 2024, under Erik ten Hag.

They are one of three teams to end October with a 100% winning record in the Premier League, alongside Arsenal and Aston Villa.
