Manchester United are reportedly being investigated by Trafford Council after the club 'served raw chicken' at an event at Old Trafford that 'allegedly made several people ill'.
According to The Athletic, the club are also 'conducting an internal investigation' after several people attending the event alleged they had become sick from the uncooked chicken.
The outlet reports that the event had taken place in the club's stadium 'in the past few months' but adds 'the precise nature of the event is not yet known'.
Mail Sport has reached out to the football club for further comment.
The Athletic also claims that the investigations are set to establish whether the 'symptoms of the guests were related to what they consumed at Old Trafford' or whether the alleged illness came from another source.
It comes as Sir Jim Ratcliffe's £1.3bn takeover of Man United is set to be completed in the coming weeks, with the petrochemicals magnate poised to take control of football operations at the club.
Mail Sport understands Ratcliffe is expected to invest £245million into the club's infrastructure.
Despite that, the club currently holds a food hygiene rating of 'Five - Very Good' according to the government's Food Standards Agency (FSA), with United's last inspection taking place on October 23, 2023.
The website also currently rates the club's 'management of food safety' as 'good' while also rating their 'hygienic food handling' as 'good' too.
Yet, the report could call the Red Devil's hygiene rating into question and could require the club to spend funds on improving their catering procedures.
The FSA is a government department that is responsible for food safety and preparation, that aims to protect members of the public from health risks associated with the consumption of food.
They deliver ratings out of five, with one being the lowest, to catering businesses throughout the United Kingdom following an inspection that takes into account how organisations handle, store, prepare and cooked.
In serious cases, the agency has the powers to close a business and stop it from trading.
On Matchdays, United's hospitality packages help to provide the club with substantial revenue.
The club also makes money from hosting events at Old Trafford away from its fixtures, with the club's website stating that organisations can currently purchase a Christmas party event package for £42-per-head, which includes a 'three-course meal'.
The Red Devils are next in action at home against Chelsea on December 6, travelling to St James' Park this weekend to play Newcastle.
