Manchester United have picked Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as a priority signing over Bruno Fernandes, according to reports from Spain.
The Red Devils are in the market for a new midfielder amid the uncertainty that continues to surround Paul Pogba, and have been linked to a handful of players.
Sean Longstaff, Fernandes, Milinkovic-Savic and Christian Eriksen have all been considered by United's scouting team.
And Fernandes appeared to be the favourite to make a switch to Old Trafford. The Sporting Lisbon midfielder is keen to play in the Premier League, and his agent has reportedly been in the UK to thrash out a deal for his client.
But Spanish publication AS is now reporting that United would rather sign Milinkovic-Savic over the Portugal international.
This report follows claims from Italy that the Red Devils want to close a deal for the Lazio man.
Solskjaer has been open about Man United's transfer pursuits this summer, although has stopped short of naming names.
Ed Woodward meanwhile opted against flying out to China for the Red Devils pre-season tour of the Far East in order to stay at home and complete transfers.
This is the first pre-season tour he has missed since assuming the role of executive vice-chairman at Manchester United back in 2013.
