Man Utd news: Onana's stance on transfer exit as two stars 'desperate to leave'

Manchester United are preparing for a huge Europa League clash against Lyon on Thursday but Ruben Amorim is also looking towards the future makeup of his squad

It's a huge week for Manchester United, one which could define their miserable season. The Red Devils are reeling from a dreadful 4-1 defeat away to Newcastle, as Ruben Amorim's five changes failed to give United their first win since the international break.

Amorim will be desperate for that come against Lyon on Thursday, as the second leg of the teams' Europa League quarter-final looms. A decision will need to be made on Andre Onana, who made two howlers in the first leg and was dropped in place of Altay Bayindir for his first Premier League start at Newcastle.

Should United fail to beat Lyon, they'll only have their worst ever Premier League season to focus on. The Red Devils are guaranteed to finish on their lowest points tally, worse than the 2021-22 campaign.

But United are also looking beyond the season, as the summer transfer window looms. Amorim is keen to rebuild his squad and, as ever, outgoings could be just as important as incomings.

Here's a round-up of the latest news from Old Trafford.

Onana not looking to quit

Andre Onana plans to re-establish himself as Ruben Amorim's No.1 and wants to stay at Old Trafford. Onana, 29, was dropped for the first time in the Premier League on Sunday and remains in the dark over whether he'll start Thursday's huge clash with Lyon.

The Sun report that Onana has long-standing interest from Saudi Arabia and the goalkeeper wasn't pleased with the wage cut which he suffered when United failed to qualify for the Champions League last summer. However, Onana isn't looking to quit and wants to prove his critics wrong.

Sancho and Garnacho will be 'desperate to leave'

Both Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho will be desperate to leave Manchester United this summer, it's been claimed. The two wingers could find themselves on the chopping block, with United looking to raise funds.

Sancho could join Chelsea on a permanent basis for £25million, although the Blues can waive the clause and send him back to United for £5m. Garnacho, meanwhile, was heavily linked with a move to Napoli in January and isn't thriving under Ruben Amorim, prompting a former Premier League star to tip them to leave.

Carragher makes Amorim sack claim

Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester United need to be patient with Ruben Amorim - and they may as well sack him if they want him to change his system. Amorim has won just 23 points from a possible 63 in the Premier League, with the Europa League his only silver lining.

"People keep saying, 'Oh, he's got to change the system'," Carragher said on Sky Sports. "I don't really see it like that because his whole managerial career and the success that he's had has been based on that system, that's what he knows. If he goes to something else, they might as well change the manager."
