New boss Ruben Amorim is up and running at Manchester United, with a first victory in the Premier League his next target.
The Portuguese coach picked up his first win on Thursday, as United came from behind to beat Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt 3-2 in a topsy-turvy Europa League clash. Now his side welcome Everton to Old Trafford on Sunday, hoping to improve on last weekend's frustrating 1-1 draw away to Ipswich Town.
But Amorim's isn't solely focussed on events on the pitch, as the January transfer window is just around the corner. The Red Devils have spent heavily under previous managers since Sir Alex Ferguson left and that's unlikely to change during Amorim's tenure - but outgoings are the priority for now.
Here's a round-up of the latest news from Old Trafford.
Eriksen future decision made
Manchester United have decided not to offer midfielder Christian Eriksen a new contract, with Ruben Amorim seeing no future for the 32-year-old beyond this season. Denmark international Eriksen joined the Red Devils in 2022 on a free transfer from Brentford, his first club since suffering a cardiac arrest the previous summer.
Having been a mainstay during Erik ten Hag's first season, the Dane lost his place as a regular starter last term and isn't part of Amorim's long-term plans. Eriksen's contract is due to expire on June 30 next year and has been tipped to join Scottish giants Celtic, where Denmark team-mate Kasper Schmeichel now plies his trade.
Why Everton blocked Branthwaite move
Everton boss Sean Dyche has explained the real reason why Jarrad Branthwaite will be wearing blue at Old Trafford on Sunday instead of red. The highly-rated centre-back was the subject of two lucrative bids from Manchester United during the summer transfer window but Everton made the 'brave' decision to reject both.
"Not just Jarrad, there are other players here that we could have sold, definitely," Dyche told reporters. "I said, 'look, there's more reward in keeping these players because if you sell too many, we dilute too much'. We've been diluting every year, so if we dilute again and again, eventually it goes wrong.
Amorim details therapist talks
Ruben Amorim says that he 'isn't ashamed' to reveal that he saw a therapist before going into coaching, insisting that he can cope with the pressure of being Manchester United manager. "I think it will change my life, it will not change me. Everybody says to me, this will change me. This will not change me," Amorim vowed.
"Of course, if something happens I will be frustrated for a while but I know I will recover. But, I believe that we are going to succeed. I feel the confidence of people but, to tell you the truth, I’m relaxed because, no matter what, I'll be okay. I'm not ashamed to say I had a therapist, a psychologist."
