Man Utd target Zubimendi has already made his transfer stance clear

Manchester United transfer target Martin Zubimendi has already ruled out leaving Real Sociedad this summer.

The Spain international, 25, has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal since the end of the season after impressing in La Liga over the past few years.

And Zubimendi, a Real Sociedad academy product, is also now on United's radar with the Red Devils keen to bring in a defensive midfielder after signing Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro from Bologna and Lille respectively.

While it's been reported that Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain is the club's top target, The Manchester Evening News has outlined that Zubimendi is also a target for United, who struggled in the Premier League last season under Erik ten Hag.

Free agent Adrien Rabiot is also under consideration as United search for a new No.6, while the club could instead opt to trigger an option which would see former loanee Sofyan Amrabat rejoin them on a permanent basis from Fiorentina.

While it remains unclear who United will push for in the coming weeks, Zubimendi has already played down talk that he would be leaving Sociedad this summer following extensive links with Arsenal.

The playmaker, speaking during Euro 2024, told El Diario Vasco, via ED defiantly: “Where am I going to play next season? I’m going to be at Real Sociedad. I have a contract with Real Sociedad and that’s where I’m most comfortable.”

Although Zubimendi's stance could be tested by interest from United, the club could prioritise other targets if the midfielder is indeed reluctant to move.

Further transfers are likely to be dependant on outgoings, though, with the club having a limited summer transfer budget. United have already spent in excess of £85million on deals for Zirkzee and Yoro, although they have recouped some of that outlay by selling Mason Greenwood.

A number of other players are expected to depart in the coming weeks after it emerged earlier this summer that the club would consider serious offers for the majority of their squad, including the likes of Casemiro, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen.

McTominay has attracted interest from Fulham and Galatasaray in recent weeks and United have already rejected bids which do not meet their valuation of the Scotsman.
