With the move for Jadon Sancho set to be completed, Manchester United ’s transfer business is finally gathering pace.
The Red Devils saw an offer for the winger accepted by Borussia Dortmund over Euro 2020, but appear to have been waiting for the tournament to end before moving on other targets.
At the top of their list is Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also eyeing a new defensive midfielder.
Solskjaer is hoping to mount a challenge for the Premier League title next season, though departures may be needed to boost the overall quality of their squad.
Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Manchester United transfer news…
Exits imminent
Much of the focus of Manchester United’s transfer window so far has been on arrivals, with the Premier League side closing in on deals for Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.
But if the Red Devils are to challenge Manchester City for the league title, under-performing players will need to be moved on.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that departures are imminent as his side ramp up their business.
Rather than talking players such as Diogo Dalot though, it is the younger members of the United squad who Solskjaer will be sending out to gain experience.
“They’ll [the youngsters] get a taste of some football. Then roundabouts early August, some will go on loan,” he told the club's official website.
“We’ve already lined up a few and some of them are still in discussions between us and the players about where is the best place to go.”
Varane offer ‘insufficient’
With Jadon Sancho virtually through the arrivals door, Manchester United are turning towards their other priority transfer targets.
Top of that list is Raphael Varane, who United want to bring in as Harry Maguire’s partner at the heart of their defence.
Neither Victor Lindelof nor Eric Bailly have proved consistent enough performers to fill that role, with Varane now the next man United are targeting.
The Frenchman is set to leave Real Madrid this summer after entering the final year of his contract without agreeing a new deal.
But while United are understood to be hopeful of completing a move, our man David McDonnell says United are unwilling to go in excess of £40million - while Real Madrid want closer to £60m.
United enter Griezmann race
Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann as the La Liga side struggle to raise funds.
Griezmann only moved to the Nou Camp in 2019, when Barca activated his £102.5million release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract.
He scored 20 goals in all competitions last season, but it has been a mixed spell in Catalonia for the Frenchman.
The 30-year-old did impress at Euro 2020, but he is set to depart Barca this summer as they look to raise money to relieve their precarious financial situation.
Griezmann is one of their top assets and Sport report that United have joined Atletico, Chelsea, Juventus and Manchester City in the race to sign him.
United already have Edinson Cavani as a first-choice forward option, but their cover behind the Uruguayan is thin.
