Ahead of Manchester United's clash with Liverpool, the Manchester Evening News has updated its current injury situation, with midfield and defence facing a shortage of personnel and Cristiano Ronaldo also confirmed to be out of the squad.

Varane, McTominay and Fred will all miss the game, having missed united's victory over Norwich in the previous round.

Varane and McTominay have missed United's last two games and Fred has yet to recover from a hip flexor problem he picked up against Everton.

Varane has not been a regular player since joining united and rangnick said of his recent condition: "Varane has not been training with the team, he has been working with our rehabilitation coach on lang and in terms of injuries we have been in the same situation as in the last two games.

Cavani and Luke Shaw are likely to be out for the rest of the season, so Rangnick should be limited to playing Matic and Paul Pogba alongside united's midfielders for now. Nemanja Matic has confirmed he will leave Manchester United at the end of the season and Paul Pogba is also expected to leave.

Bruno Fernandes was involved in a car crash on his way to training on Monday morning but was not seriously injured and trained as usual at carrington.

United officials had also confirmed before the match that Ronaldo would not be playing in the game following the tragic death of his son.
