Man Utd will look to sign Premier League proven players again, says chief Berrada

Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada has hinted that the club could look to sign Premier League proven talent again this summer after a successful 2025-26 campaign.

The Red Devils signed Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha from Brentford and Wolves, respectively, and the pair played a key role in securing Champions League football.

Mbeumo registered 15 goal involvements (12 goals, three assists) across all competitions, a total only bettered by United captain Bruno Fernandes (31), while Cunha chipped in with 12 of his own (10 goals, two assists).

Benjamin Sesko, who was brought in from RB Leipzig, flourished under Michael Carrick, and finished his first season at Old Trafford with 12 goals in 32 appearances.

United are reportedly interested in West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes and Newcastle United's Lewis Hall, and Berrada believes the club's recruitment team are looking closely at players that can handle the demands of the Premier League.

"The template for what we did last summer will be replicated in many ways," Berrada said on the club's Inside Carrington podcast on Thursday.

"You always go into a window, and you don't know how you're going to come out of it. You have to be really prepared.

"You have to have a clear plan and know exactly what positions you're looking to strengthen.

"We have a clear plan. I think what we saw last season is a good way forward for us, which is we want a mix of experience and youth.

"We want a mix of players who have demonstrated they can perform in the Premier League and perhaps also players who are doing very well outside the Premier League.

"We will always do it within our terms and ensuring that whatever decision we take is not just for the short term but also the long term."

Prior to last season, United had not signed a player who had played in the Premier League since 2023-24, when Mason Mount and Jonny Evans joined the club.

It has also been reported that Atalanta midfielder Ederson is close to sealing a move to Old Trafford, with a reported £35m (€40.5m) deal agreed between the two clubs.

But alongside strengthening United's midfield, another situation Berrada is keen to resolve surrounds Fernandes, who enjoyed a stellar 2025-26 campaign.

After his assist against Brighton, Fernandes set a new record in a single campaign in the competition with 21, overtaking Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne's previous record.

In addition, he has now scored and assisted in 19 Premier League games for United, a tally only Wayne Rooney (35) and Ryan Giggs (22) have done so more often.

The Portugal international was the subject of interest from Al-Hilal last summer and has so far left the door open to a possible move away from Old Trafford after the World Cup.

"In Bruno we have a fantastic captain, absolutely fantastic," Berrada said of Fernandes. "We'd like him to stay, of course we do. He's had a great season on the pitch.

"More importantly, I think he's shown to everybody that he's a great leader. People don't see what he does off the pitch.

"He represents the club really well. He understands the values of the club."
