Ernesto Valverde is a Spanish former footballer who played as a forward and is the current manager of Barcelona. Txingurri means 'ant' in euskera. Valverde was a short and thin player but with a lot of strength and capable of dribbling any opponent. His career as a player wasn't easy. In the 80's he left Athletic Club and had to start his career at Espanyol with Clemente.
Valverde's trophy list as a manager:
Olympiacos
Superleague Greece: 2008–09, 2010–11, 2011–12
Greek Football Cup: 2008–09, 2011–12
Athletic Bilbao
Supercopa de España: 2015
Barcelona
La Liga: 2017–18
Copa del Rey: 2017–18
Valverde prefers 4-3-3 formation as he usually starts Messi-Suarez-Dembele as the front three. The interactions in this system allowed for stable buildups and control of the game in both the offensive and defensive phases.
Under Valverde, Barcelona remained undefeated for 43 matches in the Spanish League only to lose in their penultimate game of the campaign on 13 May 2018. He holds a win ratio of 69.6% during his manager careering in Barca until now. Barcelona president Bartomeu praised Valverde that 'We have a very respected coach who believes in our model'. And Atletico manager Diego Simeone said Valverde is doing an 'extraordinary job' at Barca.
