Manchester City fend off Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers ran them close, but Manchester City started their Premier League campaign with a 3-1 win at Molineux on Monday night.

Pep Guardiola's side began their season a week later than most Premier League teams after their involvement in the Champions League in August.

Kevin De Bruyne won and converted a penalty to give them the lead in Wolverhampton before Phil Foden added a second goal before half time.

After City's first-half dominance, Wolves rallied after the break, creating a number of opportunities to get back into the game.

Raul Jimenez spurned an excellent chance from Adama Traore's low cross, but the Mexican striker made amends with a headed strike later in the half.

In the closing stages, Guardiola handed Ferran Torres a Premier League debut, sending the former Valencia forward on for Raheem Sterling.

Despite pressure from the hosts, City added a third goal in stoppage time through Gabriel Jesus to earn their first three points of the season.
