Manchester City 'had approach for Harry Kane rejected in January'

Manchester City are said to have already had one approach rejected by Tottenham in their pursuit of Harry Kane.

The Tottenham star has told the club that he wishes to leave in the summer, as he seeks a fresh start in a bid to improve his chances of winning trophies.

Pep Guardiola's side are among the interested parties for Kane, with rivals Manchester United and Chelsea also said to be considering a move.

According to the Daily Star, Manchester City's interest in Kane started before the news even went public.

It is reported that they approached Tottenham over a potential transfer during the January transfer window.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy though batted away Manchester City's interest, but with Kane's desire to leave the club becoming public, Spurs might have to relax their stance if a suitable offer comes in.

Levy is notorious for making life hard for those who wish to sign players from his club and has no plans on letting his prized asset go without a fight.

A move for Kane will be difficult as Tottenham value their striker to be well above the £100m mark, which could be a difficult value to match in the current climate.

Pep Guardiola is determined to land another striker with club legend Sergio Aguero set to leave the club in the summer.

Kane hinted that he could be interested in a move to Manchester City when he described playing with Kevin de Bruyne as a 'striker's dream' while speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap.

The 27-year-old is keen to get his future resolved before the European Championships kick-off in mid June, though that could prove a difficult deadline to meet.

His desires to leave the club come after eight trophyless seasons since he first broke into the senior team.

Tottenham have finished runners-up in the Premier League and Champions League in that time, though they have fallen down the pecking order with the club set to finish no higher than sixth in the standings this season.

Kane could play his final game for the club in Sunday's clash against Leicester.
