Rico Lewis has become Manchester City's youngest ever scorer in the Champions League with his effort against Sevilla.

The 17-year-old, making his full debut for the club having joined at eight-years-old, marked the appearance with a well taken effort to equalise for City against Sevilla.

Starting at right-back for Pep Guardiola's youthful-looking side for the dead rubber against the Spanish outfit, Lewis was mobbed by his delighted team-mates after latching onto a through-ball from Julian Alvarez.

Lewis appeared a combination of shocked and exhilarated as he celebrated the best moment of his career to date with equally pleased team-mates.

Starting alongside fellow academy graduates Phil Foden and Cole Palmer, Lewis appeared particularly delighted to revel in the moment alongside them.

For the funds spent by the club since the takeover by Abu Dhabi at the end of the 2000s, the club have brought through a number of players from the academy - with many hoping Lewis will prove to be the next along the production line.

Reacting to the moment on social media, City fans praised the young man for his goal and overall performance.

'Rico Lewis remember the name,' one wrote, referencing some famous lines of commentary from down the years.

'What a goal from Rico Lewis. This kid has a future at Manchester City. I’m so sure of it,' another wrote.

Meanwhile, another perhaps predicted a bright future for the young starlet, saying that every time he appeared he delivered for the club.

'Rico Lewis, remember the name. Every game this guy has played he’s been brilliant!'

Another chose to focus on the special moment for the academy graduate.

'What a moment for Rico Lewis that is. Brilliant.'

Lewis became the fifth youngest Englishman to start in the competition behind Jack Wilshere, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Josh McEachran.
