Manchester United have been reportedly calling Louis van Gaal in their attempts to sign Cody Gakpo while he is with the Netherlands at the World Cup in Qatar.
According to the Mirror, Van Gaal left his phone in a hotel bathroom in Doha, only for it to be discovered by De Telegraaf journalist Valentijn Driessen. When the Dutch football writer pressed the power button to work out who it belonged to, he was apparently greeted with a screenshot of the former United manager next to his wife Truus.
But there were said to be also two missed calls, both with the caller ID 'Manchester United'. Van Gaal's phone was immediately returned to him by Driessen, although it is reported that the 71-year-old was 'less than impressed' that it had been found by the highly-respected journalist.
The report suggests that United may have been looking for permission from Van Gaal to speak to Gakpo while he is with the Netherlands in Qatar. Erik ten Hag had been interested in signing the PSV winger over the summer, before the club eventually concentrated their efforts in making a move for Antony instead.
Elsewhere, United are reportedly expecting Aaron Wan-Bissaka to leave the club next month. According to 90Min, the former Crystal Palace star is expected to leave during the next window.
