Harry Maguire was left with blood trickling down his cheek after a nasty clash of heads during Manchester United's win against Crystal Palace.
The central defender picked up the injury, just above his right eye, following an aerial challenge with Palace's Odsonne Eduoard.
The England international received treatment from United medical staff for the wound as he appeared worse for wear in the aftermath of the incident.
He was bandaged up and played out the rest of the game with black tape wrapped around his forehead as United kept their fist cleansheet at home this season.
The cleansheet will have been of particular importance for Maguire, who has endured a difficult season at United and has seen his performances come in for criticism.
Maguire has been targeted several times by pundit Roy Keane for his questionable performances at the back for Manchester United, and was labelled 'embarrassing by the former Republic of Ireland captain following his celebration for England after scoring against Albania.
However, he looked more assured and confident at the back during Rangnick's first game in charge.
United fans will hope it is a sign of things to come at Old Trafford.
