Manchester United fans fume over disallowed goal vs Newcastle as Cristiano Ronaldo fails to impress

These are your Manchester United evening headlines for Sunday, October 16.

Several Manchester United supporters felt Cristiano Ronaldo was denied a legitimate goal less than five minutes into the start of the second half of Sunday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

After a dire first-half showing from Erik ten Hag's side, in which they were lucky to head back to the dressing room with the scores still level at 0-0, they thought they had got their noses in front just three minutes after the restart. Newcastle were awarded a free-kick just outside their own penalty area and Ronaldo thought the visitors had taken it quickly when it was rolled back to goalkeeper Nick Pope.

He robbed the ball from the toes of Pope, ran into the penalty area and rolled the ball into an unguarded net. However, the Portuguese star was quickly denied what he thought was the 701st goal of his club career by referee Craig Pawson.

On his 500th appearance, he demonstrated why he could struggle to make it to 600 with some shoddy distribution. Irked the crowd. 5

Off the pace and, as the only outfield player to have started every game, possibly overplayed. Mildly improved in the second-half. 6

One of the handful of players who looked affronted by Newcastle riding roughshod over United. Led the backline well again. 7
