Manchester United supporters are delighted after the club announced the capture of goalkeeper Andre Onana on Thursday evening.

Onana will take up the mantle as United's new number one after completing a £47m move from Inter Milan and will replace the vacancy left by David de Gea.

The Cameroonian shot-stopper was confirmed by the club as their number one target following back-and-forth negotiations between the Premier League and Serie A giants.

He travelled to Manchester on Tuesday, underwent a medical on Wednesday and signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford on Thursday which also includes the option of a further year.

There was concern that United may have missed out on Onana due to the riches being offered up by Saudi Arabian clubs, however, supporters breathed a sigh of relief as the club confirmed their second signing of the summer.

Fans took to social media to showcase their delight with many believing that Onana will help close the gap to Premier League holders Manchester City next season.

The 27-year-old was wanted by Ten Hag for his ability to play out from the back - something De Gea struggled with - and is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe for that skill.

One ecstatic supporter claimed that Onana will 'transform' United's fortunes and revolutionise the team, stating: 'Onana is done baby! What a transformative signing he will be. Amazing to think a goalkeeper can revolutionise a team but he genuinely will add so much.'

Another echoed similar sentiments, adding: 'What a great signing Onana is. Game changer.

A third United backer marvelled in Onana's arrival and expressed excitement on a day that also saw Bruno Fernandes named as the club's new captain.

Writing on Twitter, they said: 'Onana Signing.. Bruno Captain! What a night.'
