Manchester United's hopes of signing teenage sensation Eduardo Camavinga took a hit after the 18-year-old's reported preference is a for a move to Spain.

Camavinga is one of the hottest young prospects in world football at the moment, having shone in the heart of Rennes' midfield last season.

Despite his young age, Camavinga played 35 times in Ligue 1 and made four Champions League appearances, including against eventual champions Chelsea.

Camavinga made his debut for France in September against Croatia, but he was not selected in Didier Deschamps' final squad for Euro 2020.

The Red Devils and Real Madrid have been at the top of the list of clubs interested in signing Camavinga, and United's interest may be further heightened given Paris Saint-Germain's £43million pursuit of Paul Pogba.

But according to the Manchester Evening News, discussions between his team and United representatives were 'not encouraging', with the player favouring a move to Spain instead of Manchester.

However, all is not lost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a move to the Spanish capital could be difficult for Camavinga to achieve. Real Madrid have significant financial issues that could make any sizeable offer for the young Frenchman difficult.

For their part, Rennes are looking to cash in on Camavinga in this transfer window as he will move into the last year of his contract next season.

Rennes prevented Camavinga from joining the France team at the Tokyo Olympics to ensure they can sell him before the window closes. As such they will want to extract maximum value from any club looking to sign their star teenager.

Camavinga could also be interested in a move to Barcelona, but their financial woes are even deeper than Real Madrid's, with the club desperately looking to offload several high earners in order to keep Lionel Messi.
