Marcos Alonso Pena, the father of Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has confirmed that his son has a love for Italy but a return does not depend on him.

Alonso joined Chelsea in the Summer of 2016 from Fiorentina and he has went on to make 136 appearances across all competitions for the London based club in the time since. He has however seen a reduction in playing time this season.

The 29-year-old has played just 16 times to date and he has played just one of the nine Premier League games Chelsea have had since Christmas with him not even making the squad for five of those games.

Alonso drew strong links with both Inter and Juventus during the recent January transfer window but nothing ultimately materialised as Chelsea are understood to have slapped a €40 million price-tag on his head to try and deter the interest.

“Serie A is a beautiful league and he continues to be very close to Italy because it has many friends there. He has a very good memories there,” he admitted in an interview with CalcioMercato.it.

“Can he return to Italy? I don't know, it's difficult to say. He still has a three year contract with Chelsea, it doesn't depend on him, but instead the English club. I can only say that my son loves Italy.”
