Tottenham’s players were woken twice in the early hours of Tuesday by lavish displays of fireworks outside their hotel in Marseille ahead of a crucial Champions League game.
Marseille fans targeted the luxury hotel where the Spurs party, including boss Antonio Conte and England captain Harry Kane, were staying in the French city with two separate long and loud spells of explosions from rockets and streamers.
It was a night when hundreds of partygoers took to the streets around the port to celebrate Halloween but this was considered to be a deliberate attempt to disturb the team, a popular tactic among fans in some parts of the world.
Italian publication Corriere dello Sport reported that Tottenham held an emergency meeting at 10.30am to guarantee the safety of players ahead of tonight's match.
Conte's side are expected to be welcomed by a typically hostile atmosphere in Marseille tonight, with all still to play for in Tottenham's group.
Spurs need only a point against Marseille in the Stade Velodrome on Tuesday to guarantee a place in the top two of Champions League Group D and qualify for the knock-out rounds next year.
Marseille must win to qualify, a result which would knock Conte’s team out of the competition and dump them into the Europa League.

Around 2,000 Spurs fans are expected in Marseille on Tuesday and a decree from the police of Bouches-du Rhone has prohibited 'any person claimed to be a Tottenham supporter or behaving as such' from moving around the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th subdivisions of Marseille.
The ban was imposed on Monday afternoon to avoid the possibility of conflicts between both sets of fans.
Tottenham fans will be escorted to the Velodrome on coaches and buses under the supervision of the local police. Away fans are also advised not to be anywhere near the stadium without a police escort between 10am and midnight on Tuesday.
