Coventry City forward Martyn Waghorn is poised for a return to Derby County.
The 32-year-old left Derby last summer after his contract ended. He had finished his time there by scoring the penalty against Sheffield Wednesday that preserved their Championship status.
However, with financial crisis tearing through the club, he was not offered a new deal and moved to Coventry.
He made 29 appearances there last season in what proved to be the worst scoring season in his career, as he found the net just once.
Waghorn is now poised for a return to Pride Park where he remains a favourite among fans.
The vastly experienced striker, who has over 400 career appearances with ten different clubs, is viewed as someone who can help Liam Rosenior in the dressing room and lead on the pitch as they look to push themselves out of League One at the first attempt.
Despite his nomadic career, Waghorn has played more games for the Derby than any other side, with 123 appearances.
Derby face Barnsley at the weekend and the striker could be in contention if a deal can be processed before lunchtime on Friday.
Talks are continuing with all parties keen to get a deal resolved quickly.
