Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Edouard Mendy could leave Chelsea as Blues look to balance books

Chelsea could offload Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Edouard Mendy this summer as they look to reduce their wage bill ahead of Mauricio Pochettino's expected appointment as manager.

Mount, who is valued at £80 million, is currently being chased by Liverpool and Arsenal after following consecutive player of the season awards at Stamford Bridge with a patchy 2022/23 campaign.

The midfielder recently underwent an abdominal operation after picking up a season-ending injury, leading to fears he may have played his last game for the Blues.

Mikel Arteta is believed to be keen on adding depth in midfield ahead of the Gunners' return to Champions League football next season, although Declan Rice remains their main target.

Liverpool are also believed to be prioritising Mount after pulling out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham, although they are also chasing Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch.

If the 20-year-old Dutchman was to leave Bavaria, Thomas Tuchel's side may also look to Chelsea for reinforcements.

The German champions are keen on Mateo Kovacic, another midfielder likely to leave the club to trim the Blues' overflowing squad.

He has been a key player since arriving from Real Madrid in 2018, but the Croatia international may be deemed surplus to requirements in a squad that also includes the likes of Enzo Fernandez and N'Golo Kante.

Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who has had his game time reduced by injuries this season and struggled to usurp Kepa Arrizabalaga in the Blues' first team, is another who could leave this summer.

While he is yet to be appointed, Pochettino is currently in talks to become the next Chelsea boss, and has his own transfer plans ready.

The former Tottenham boss is expected to prioritise finding a new striker and goalkeeper as he looks to resurrect Chelsea after a torrid season.

Frank Lampard's side are winless since mid-March, and have slid to 12th in the Premier League table despite spending £600 million on new players this season.

Chelsea will next be in action against title-chasing Arsenal on Tuesday.
