On June 29th, in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16, Brazil faced Japan. Brazil ultimately came back from behind to defeat Japan 2-1, eliminating them. After the match, Matheus Cunha was interviewed by FIFA's official website.

On the Japan team
Cunha: "It's never easy to play against such an opponent. Their fighting spirit to win every ball was obvious. In the second half, we went in with the mindset of proactively controlling the game and playing our own style. Although the process was difficult, we ultimately got what we wanted. Looking back now, our tactical ideas in the first half were actually quite similar; it was just the stronger offensive urgency in the second half that changed the situation."
