Matip, Shaqiri & Salah... Liverpool injury updates ahead of Arsenal clash

  /  autty

A full round-up of all of Liverpool's current injuries including potential return dates for Joel Matip, Xherdan Shaqiri, Nathaniel Clyne and Paul Glatzel.

Matip

Matip remains troubled by the knee injury he suffered against Sheffield United last month which forced him to sit out Liverpool's clashes with Red Bull Salzburg and Leicester City.

Returning to face Manchester United, the Cameroonian continued to be troubled by the knock and, after missing the Reds' win over Tottenham, is now set for a unspecified-length spell on the sidelines.

The defender is yet to return to training with Liverpool giving him time to recover properly.

Pep Lijnders update:

"Joel's knee is still irritated – we need to give him time. I don't know the exact time he will need but it will really need time to heal."

Expected return:

Shaqiri

Shaqiri suffered a calf tear in training ahead of Liverpool's clash with MK Dons.

The Swiss was expected to start the game, but hurt himself in training before the Carabao Cup tie and has remained sidelined ever since.

And ahead of Liverpool's League Cup clash with Arsenal, assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed Shaqiri wouldn't return until after the November international break.

Pep Lijnders update:

"Shaq will only be back after the international break.

"We want to give him the time. With a calf injury it is always very high risk, especially with his calves."

Expected return:

November 2019

Salah

Mohamed Salah continues to nurse an ankle injury after limping off against Leicester City following a late tackle from Hamza Choudhury.

Missing Liverpool's trip to Manchester United, he returned to face Genk and Tottenham but was substituted in the latter as a precaution.

Pep Lijnders update:

"Mo is fine.

"Towards the end of the game it is more precaution because the ankle gets more tired and he feels it a little bit more and we have to take him off. But he is fine, he is good."

Expected return:

October 2019

Clyne

Clyne is facing at least six months on the sidelines after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in pre-season.

The England international sustained the problem shortly before he was due to be substituted during the 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Reds' opening match of their US tour in July 2019.

Klopp update:

"Clyney and Paul Glatzel, they are obviously far away still but are making big steps as well.”

Expected return:

Glatzel

The striker suffered knee ligament damage when making his first appearance for the Liverpool first team against Tranmere Rovers in pre-season.

After undergoing surgery, Glatzel is expected to be out for the season.

Klopp update:

“Clyney and Paul Glatzel, they are obviously far away still but are making big steps as well.”
