Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter confirmed Chelsea have enquired about his availability this summer but has committed to the Bundesliga club.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is desperate to improve his defence to compliment the attacking signings of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and Ajax's Hakim Ziyech, while the Blues could also move for Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz this year.

The 26-year-old has starred for Marco Rose's side this term, guiding Gladbach to next season's Champions League, with the German admitting he is happy with his current surroundings.

Ginter told German publication Kicker: ‘I’m definitely staying in Gladbach. Of course I heard of the enquiries and was flattered by this attention.

‘But I’ve said often enough how good things are for me in Gladbach. The current team has great potential and the coach has brought a huge added value for us.

‘The club is in the process of building something with the great fans and the environment. I also have big goals with the club and of course I’m still tied into a contract.’

Ginter, who has been capped nearly 30 times by his country, has been at Gladbach since moving from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 for around £15million.

Since then, he has made 102 appearances for the Bundesliga side in all competitions, including 31 last season.

The 26-year-old's contract at Borussia-Park ends in just over a year's time but the defender insists there is no rush to sign a new deal straight away.

Asked whether Gladbach are looking to tie him down to a new contract, Ginter added: ‘I can imagine that but there is no hurry. Discussions have yet taken place on this topic due to the coronavirus pandemic.’
