Chelsea transfer news: The Blues will have to beat Tottenham to one of their remaining targets this summer if they are to find Mauricio Pochettino's attacking answer.

Chelsea have entered the final week of the transfer window with work still to do and could yet find themselves battling with London rivals Tottenham off the pitch for players.

After picking up a first win of the season at the third attempt against Luton, new manager Mauricio Pochettino has just one game to think about before the window officially slams shut on Friday, September 1. After that attention turns to playing Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

However, having picked up four points from their opening games, a tally that performances and most metrics suggest should be several points higher, there is still work to be done. Even in the eventually commanding win over new boys Luton the Blues underperformed in front of goal.

Tottenham have picked up the slack though and football.london understands that the 22-year-old is their main priority heading into the last five days of transfer action. "Understand Ange Postecoglou has made Brennan Johnson his number one attacking target for these final days of the window," Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold writes.

"Feels he's the perfect fit for his Spurs system and versatile. Talks have taken place, tough deal to do though and it's likely to be a late one if it happens."

"The chances that we created, we need to be more clinical. It is not only the strikers that need to be clinical in front of goal." He added: "It is a difficult situation because we had two strikers in Nkunku and Broja but they are injured.

"It is not easy in this moment to find the right profile. We are in the process, working to see if we can add some players in this area. But it is a job that is not easy for the club. For sure, they are working really hard to add some players.

"If it is not possible, we need to wait until Nkunku and Broja will be ready and we have the help of Mason [Burstow]."

Chelsea have once more been ravaged by injuries even in the early weeks of the season. Nkunku will be out until at least December having not yet kicked a ball in a competitive match, he was expected to be the fulcrum for attacks this season with his immense goalscoring output.

"We need to wait also [for Broja]," Pochettino said when addressing the front line. "He's close but sometimes you are close but last step is difficult after the injury he suffered. He has trained well, we have hope also. That is why we are assessing the squad and all of the things that happen.

"It is easy to say we need another offensive players, but I think we have offensive players and they need to recover.

"If you bring in a player that is not fit or needs to adapt to the Premier League, maybe you are going to spend the same time you wait for Broja, or Nkunku or Carney. Then you are going to create a mess in the squad. That is why we are working really hard to analyse the situation."

"We are trying to find the right profile," Pochettino finished. "The most important is the profile of the player we need to add to the squad so after it won't be a problem and they can be compatible. That is why it is not easy but yes, we are trying to do something.

"We need more and then we were talking about one offensive player, the right profile. If we can add the right profile, yes, but not to bring players so we can add one more. We don't want to stop the evolution of some young guys, Broja, Nkunku."
