PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly turned down Manchester United as he waits on his dream job at Real Madrid.

The Argentine is expected to leave the French giants in the summer unless he can win the Champions League - with the expectations extremely high at PSG this season.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the former Tottenham Hotspur manager for quite some time, but now face a battle to capture his signature, with Real now circling as they consider a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti.

Sportsmail understands that Real, along with Tottenham, failed in an attempt to lure Pochettino away from PSG last summer because the French club were unwilling to let the Argentine leave.

There is a growing sense Pochettino will be obtainable at the end of this season and the Spanish giants remain huge admirers of the ex-Spurs head coach as doubts emerge over Carlo Ancelotti's future at the Bernabeu.

The Argentine coach has never hidden his desire to one day sit on the white bench, and Madrid president Florentino Pérez has him in mind as one of the team's future coaches while he is in charge.

Pochettino turned down an opportunity in 2018 when Zidane left, and although he remains in the PSG hotseat, he has already turned down Man United in hope of landing the Los Blancos job, according to reports in Spain.

The 49-year-old knows that if experienced boss Ancelotti fails to win the LaLiga or continue their progress in the Champions League, the job could be his to take.

Pochettino and Ancelotti are currently going head-to-head in the last-16 of the Champions League with the French side leading 1-0 after the first leg.

Pochettino, alongside Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, remains among the main contenders to replace current interim boss Ralf Rangnick - although things have become more complicated with Madrid now showing interest.
