Mauro Icardi set to leave PSG for Galatasaray on permanent deal

Having struggled for form and playing time in his last two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, Mauro Icardi has been able to rediscover his scoring touch during a loan spell with Galatasaray this past campaign, as the Argentine led the Istanbul side to the league title.

The Turkish champions had reportedly opened talks with their Ligue 1 counterparts several months ago over making the move permanent. According to L’Équipe this morning, the two parties are now close to agreeing a deal worth €10m that will see the forward remain on the Bosphorus, with the final details now being ironed out.

Icardi finished the campaign on 23 goals in all competitions – his best return since the 2017/18 season, back when he was at Inter. PSG had signed him for €50m from the Nerazzurri in 2019. His instant impact – 20 strikes in all competitions in his first season – soon faltered, and he fell down the pecking order once the Lionel Messi-Kylian Mbappé-Neymar attacking trident became the first-choice set-up up front. His PSG contract was due to expire at the end of next season.
