Both Messi and Ronaldo made their World Cup debuts in 2006 and they will appear in their fifth World Cup in Qatar. Despite being one of the greatest players of all time, neither Messi nor Ronaldo have been able to lay their hands on the coveted cup.

Messi came agonisingly close to lifting the trophy in 2014 but missed out by a whisker as Germany beat Argentina in the final.
