Mesut Ozil heaped praise on Bukayo Saka after the Arsenal star scored twice in a crucial win against Liverpool on Sunday.

The winger netted a double, including a nerveless penalty with 15 minutes left, as Mikel Arteta's side triumphed 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium.

And former Gunners attacking midfielder Ozil quickly took to Twitter to hail his former team-mate, applauding his 'rocking' performance.

He said: 'Just love for my boy @BukayoSaka87. Rocking the Premier League ... #YaGunnersYa #ARSLIV.'

Saka then replied: 'Love you too M10 #YaGunnersYa,' followed by a kiss emoji.

Ozil and Saka clearly still enjoy a friendly relationship, with Saka previously copying the German's trademark celebration after scoring against Newcastle.

The 33-year-old, who joined Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir from Fenerbahce this summer, saw his Arsenal contract terminated six months early in January 2021 after falling out with Arteta.

Gabriel Martinelli gave the hosts the lead in the first minute, before Darwin Nunez equalised. The Brazilian then set up Saka, and although Roberto Firmino levelled the scores again, Saka netted from the penalty spot to win the game.

The result leaves the Gunners top, a point ahead of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City after nine games.
