Mexico manager speaks on Manchester United transfer links to two players

Mexico boss Gerardo Martino says it's a good sign for his national team if their players are being linked to Manchester United, when asked about duo Jose Juan Macias and Sebastian Cordova.

The two Mexican internationals have been touted for potential January moves to United in some media reports, though MEN Sport does not understand either player to be currently on the Old Trafford radar.

Macias, a striker, who dubbed 'the new Javier Hernandez', has been linked to a number of Premier League clubs — including United and West Ham. Cordova is a 22-year-old winger who plays in his homeland for Club America and has been linked with United in Portuguese media reports.

And Martino, asked about the links when speaking to Medio Tiempo , brushed off the speculation, then added that the pair's performances deserve the recognition.

He said: “The important teams in Europe must have in their sights on more than 100 players in the world, which does not mean that they are going to buy them. So they are in the sight of Benfica or Manchester like so many others, it's the work they must do.

“If there is any comment, it's because they generate it for their performances and are doing things well, it's likely that there are scouts who take them into account.”
