Micah Richards recounted one of his best career goals with a hilarious story during a recent podcast episode.
The former Manchester City defender recalled his best effort on the Rest Is Football podcast, alongside Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, where he left his co-hosts in stitches with his story.
Describing the effort, Richards claimed: 'I get the ball, breaking the line. So I've got a striker in front of me... I invented the breaking of the line, like stepping out as they call it'.
Match of the Day host Lineker then quickly exclaimed: 'I invented it! Did you just say that?'.
Shearer also chimed in and said: 'He was the first to break the lines! Only because when he stood on them he was that f****** heavy!'
Richards then continued: 'I went past one and I saw oceans and oceans of space in front of me. And I'm thinking in my head, go on son.
'I got to the last line of the defence and someone's coming toward me and I think, what do I do here? I've run out of steam by this point, I'm absolutely knackered!
'I play a wonderful, wicked, through-ball to Benjani. Benjani, one on one with the goalkeeper, misses and hits the post.
'But I've carried on my run, like the coaches used to tell me! Carried it on and then just cushioned it, lovely technique finish into the bottom corner. It was a worldie!'
Jokingly, Lineker then said: 'Sounds like Maradona's goal against England, apart from the bit where it came off the post'.
Maradona famously ran the throughout England's entire team to score during the 1986 World Cup, just moments after the Argentine's 'Hand of God' goal.
The goal Richards described came during Manchester City's 4-0 win over Blackburn back in January 2010, where Carlos Tevez scored the three other goals.
Richards scored just 11 goals throughout his playing career, with nine of those coming during his 10-year stay at City.
