Michy Batshuayi mocks Phil Jones after comical own goal

Phil Jones' bad night in the Champions League on Wednesday got even worse after he was trolled by opposition striker Michy Batshuayi.

Jones scored an own goal in the early stages of the second half in Manchester United's 2-1 defeat away to Valencia.

It was his fourth own goal for United and possibly his most embarrassing, sliding the ball past his own goalkeeper, Sergio Romero, from the edge of the area.

To make matters worse, his habit of making strange faces while he plays football - a trait often mocked online - was picked up by Chelsea loanee Batshuayi.

The trolling originated from a tweet to Batshuayi about his footwear - a pair of customised Adidas boots with the Batman symbol on the heel, in reference to the Belgian's name.

Batshuayi responded to the tweet: 'Glad you like guys... but can we talk about Phil Jones face first?'

He accompanied the tweet with a picture of him and Jones challenging for the ball, with the England defender gurning in the way that has become his accidental trademark.

Predictably, the tweet prompted an outpouring of memes and witticisms at the expense of the Manchester United player.

It topped off a disappointing night for United, as defeat meant they missed the chance to finish top of Group H, and possibly gain an easier last 16 draw.

Instead, United could face Barcelona, PSG, Bayern Munich or Real Madrid, among others, in Monday morning's draw.
