Miguel Gutierrez's big day

  /  autty

With Ferland Mendy sidelined due injury and Marcelo left out of the squad, Zinedine Zidane is set to give the nod to Real Madrid academy product Miguel Gutierrez in Thursday's game against Granada.

Even before Marcelo was officially not included in the squad list, there were rumours circulating that Zidane would start Miguel ahead of the Brazilian left-back at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Carmenes.

This will be a perfect opportunity for the 19-year-old to pay back Zidane's confidence in a very crucial game for Real Madrid, who need a win to stay alive in the title race.

A 'problem' for Marcelo

Just 23 days after making his official debut on April 21 against Cadiz, Miguel will be included in Real Madrid's starting line-up for the first time this season.

Since the game at Cadiz, the Spanish left-back has participated in two LaLiga Santander games off the bench and has suddenly made life more complicated for Marcelo.

Everything indicates that Miguel will be part of the first-team squad next season, and he also seems to be preferred ahead of Sergio Reguilon, despite Real Madrid having included a buy-back option in their deal with Tottenham Hotspur. This would only be exercised in the event Zidane departs and his successor asks for the Spaniard's return to Madrid.
