Mikel Arteta admits Arsenal are 'up against a big fight'

Arsenal slumped to their eighth defeat of the season against Everton on Saturday, as hopes of turning their season around continue to slip away.

An own goal from Rob Holding and a header from Yerry Mina were enough to give the Toffees the win, lifting them up to second in the Premier League while Arsenal languish down in 15th, just five points above the relegation zone.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted his team are 'up against a big fight' on Sky Sports after the game, although says his players are still together and ready to battle.

'We're up against a big fight but you can see how they're trying and their spirit,' said Arteta.

'Without conceding much we lost the game. We reacted well to the goal and dominated the game, created enough chances. We hit the bar, I think luck is not on our side.

'The boys are fighting, upset, together,' said Arteta, who believes they should be scoring more goals from the chances they're creating in matches.

However, his words would appear to go against an incident on the pitch during the game, which saw David Luiz lose his cool when Mohamed Elneny passed to him instead of looking to move the ball forward.

The Gunners were without a number of key players, such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Thomas Partey, but have struggled for goals overall this season.

They've only scored 12 from their 14 games so far, with only Burnley, West Brom, and Sheffield United netting fewer times.

Meanwhile, Everton are flying high, now up to second in the Premier League thanks to their recent run of form.
