Al Ghafara will sign Mohamed Diame on a deal worth £100,000-a-week once his contract with Newcastle expires.

The Magpies had offered Diame an extension, but the ex-Senegal international turned it down in favour of moving to the Qatar Stars League.

Diame's signing is the start of an overhaul for Al Gharafa, who finished sixth in their league this season.

The club have also hired former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic as boss after Christian Gourcuff left the club.

The move to Qatar ends ten years in English football for Diame, having joined Wigan in 2009.

After three years and 103 games, he moved on to West Ham before joining Hull in 2014.

He helped Newcastle regain their Premier League place after joining in 2016, and leaves having played 103 games and scored eight goals.
