Monchu: A summer bargain as Barcelona release approaches

Ramon Rodriguez Jimenez, better known as Monchu, will be free to sign for any club he wishes for from July 1, as Barcelona will release the player who plied his trade at Girona last season.

The Barcelona academy product left on loan last summer when Girona agreed to acquire his services by including a mandatory purchase clause in the event they clinched promotion to LaLiga Santander.

However, the Catalan side narrowly missed out on promotion, with Rayo Vallecano sealing a spot in the first division. Meanwhile, Barcelona agreed to inform the player's representatives in advance in the event they were willing to renew his deal.

But the Blaugrana did not do so and his agent Alvaro Costa presumes that Monchu will be a free agent next month and a bargain in the market for the teams interested in signing him.

The 21-year-old midfielder played 43 games for Girona in 2019/20, being an undisputed starter as he was in the first XI in 38 matches.

Monchu joined La Masia at the age of nine and made his debut last year against Napoli in the Champions League, before opting to move to a LaLiga Smartbank team over pursuing promotion with Barcelona B.

Several LaLiga Santander and European clubs are currently interested in signing Monchu following the youngster's brilliant season.
