Moussa Dembele wants to move to Lyon before Friday night's European transfer deadline - despite Brendan Rodgers being confident that the French hitman will stay at Celtic.

The Ligue 1 side are desperate for a new striker after seeing Mariano return to Real Madrid in a £25million move.

And Dembele is their No.1 target, with France Football stating the player is determined to move to Les Gones, who can offer Champions League football this season.

But Celtic are keen to keep hold of their star forward and Rodgers believes he will still be at Celtic Park come Saturday, despite the club having a "significant offer".

"We will see over the course of the next 24 hours," said Rodgers.“As I said before he game the club had a significant offer.

“It has been ongoing for a couple of days and we have taken Moussa out of it.

“We don’t want him to go. We understand that offer is significant but it has to work for both sides and at Celtic we need to have someone of a certain quality to come in."

Lyon are reportedly eyeing Fluminense striker Pedro as an alternative.
