Jermaine Jenas claims Sean Dyche's sacking must have been down to 'a fallout', with Glen Murray insisting his dismissal could prove to be the 'right decision'.
Dyche was sacked as Burnley manager after 10 years with the club battling relegation from the Premier League.
The Clarets are currently 18th in the table, four points from safety. They have won just one of their last seven Premier League games, losing 2-0 to fellow relegation strugglers Norwich on Sunday.
'I couldn't believe it if i'm honest with you. I was actually in shock, I think a lot of footballing world was very surprised by not only the timing of it, but what he has done at Burnley Sean Dyche is remarkable to say the least', Jenas told BT Sport.
'When you're coming up against the scenario like they're going into now, it's weird because they're on the look out for someone to get them out of trouble, and he is the one that has done it time and time again.
'In my opinion something must have happened, there must have been some form of argument, some fall-out, I don't know, but i'm sure it will all come to light in the next couple of weeks.
'The reality is I think it's a big mistake that Burnley have made in letting Sean Dyche go particularly at this time.'
Jenas was also joined by ex-Brighton forward Glenn Murray ahead of Tottenham against Brighton in the early kick-off on Saturday afternoon.
Murray, 38, was left stunned at the news Dyche had been sacked, but believes it could be the right call by the long in the long run.
'It's emotional at the minute, he has been there 10 years, everyone knows Burnley football club with Sean Dyche.
I think this could be the right decision, you look at Leeds for getting rid of Bielsa, Jesse Marsch has come in and made an instant difference.
'The new manager has got less time at Burnley, but who knows it could be the right decision, time will tell', Murray added.
Burnley's U23s coach Mike Jackson will take charge of the match away against West Ham this weekend. He will be assisted by academy director Paul Jenkins, U23s goalkeeping coach Connor King and club captain Ben Mee.
