Rightly considered two of the finest young coaches in world football, all eyes were on Julian Nagelsmann and Pep Guardiola when Hoffenheim and Manchester City locked horns on Tuesday night.
And while there are distinct similarities in their footballing philosophies, the two coaches were world's apart in their fashion choices for the Champions League tie.
Nagelsmann, 31, was pictured sporting a fitted cherry red cardigan over the top of a black shirt and black tie. The grey trousers and white soled trainers completed a unique - if uncoordinated - outfit of the day.
Guardiola, in contrast, is trendy in a much more understated way, opting to go with a black jumper and black bomber jacket.
There were to be no Tony Pulis caps or club tracksuits on show here. The new breed of coaches are also fashionistas-in-waiting.
Nagelsmann is not short of mixing it up from the traditional attire having adopted a waistcoat-led outfit for the opening group match against Shakhtar Donestk. Every bit the wardrobe of a 1990s kid.
Nagelsmann uses Guardiola as a point of reference as he continues to see his reputation enhanced throughout the game.
Speaking ahead of the match in Germany, the cardigan-admiring boss said: 'I play against Pep Guardiola for the first time and, from his professional career, he is a good point of reference.
'I'm really looking forward to our first Champions League game at home. Until now I've been feeling fairly normal and we've been concentrating on training but, as of tonight, there'll certainly be plenty of excitement.'
