Neil Lennon's former assistant manager John Kennedy is the favourite to be appointed Celtic boss.

The Scottish giants are in search of a new manager after they announced Lennon had resigned on Wednesday morning following a hugely disappointing season so far.

Celtic have fallen 18 points behind enemies Rangers with their dreams of winning 10 Scottish Premiership titles in a row shattered.

Former Celtic centre-back Kennedy has replaced Lennon at the helm on an interim basis but has been installed as the 7/4 favourite to be given the job permanently.

The 37-year-old has been a part of the Hoops' coaching set-up since 2010 and worked alongside former bosses Ronny Deila and Brendan Rodgers before becoming Lennon's No 2 two years ago.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke is among the favourites to take charge at Celtic Park while Belgium manager Roberto Martinez is also priced at 4/1 to become the Hoops manager.

Both bosses are gearing up for the delayed European Championship this summer after the tournament was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Next in the bookmakers' list comes managers currently out of work. Former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, who left the Cherries last summer following the club's relegation from the Premier League, is priced at odds of 5/1.

While former Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez, who left Chinese Super League side Dalian Pro last month, and ex-Chelsea manager Frank Lampard are both 7/1 to take over at Celtic.

Former Sevilla and West Brom midfielder Enzo Maresca is 9/1, ex-Man City and Stoke boss Mark Hughes is 14/1 while Damien Duff and Roy Keane are priced at odds of 14/1 and 16/1 respectively.

Wayne Rooney is only just over a month into his managerial career after officially retiring from playing on January 16 but he is 25/1 to be Lennon's replacement. England's record goalscorer joined Derby last January as a player-coach but was appointed Rams manager on a permanent basis last month on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
