Neves talks up a move to Barcelona and says it is a 'privilege' to be linked

Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves has talked up a move to to the Nou Camp in the future, admitting: 'Who wouldn't want to play for Barcelona?'

Neves has been strongly linked with a switch to the Spanish giants in recent weeks, with Wolves sweating on the future of their key man as he approaches the final year of his contract at Molineux.

But the playmaker has done nothing to shut down the rumours he could be linking up with Xavi when asked if he was keen on a transfer.

Speaking to Canal 11, he said it was a 'privilege' to be linked to the LaLiga giants.

'Who wouldn't want to try Barcelona?' he said. 'I think it's a common question for all players. It's one of the biggest clubs in the world. Of course, it's always a privilege for me to be associated with clubs of this calibre.

'I'm going to do my job here [at Wolves] and I'm sure I have people working with me. I trust these people a lot for these situations. I have to focus as much as I can on Wolves. Making a good time here, things will come naturally.'

Neves has been one of Wolves' best players this season despite their struggles as they remain in the relegation zone - netting twice for the team so far.

It comes after reports Barcelona are seeking an 'Edgar Davids-style player' in January with Xavi looking to further bolster his side after heavy summer investment.

Barca splash out around £150m on the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie, signings which were viewed as the injection of quality Xavi required to propel the Catalans back to the top of European football.

And now they are said to be seeking an aggressive midfielder who can make a quick impact - in the same way Davids did when he rocked up at the Nou Camp on a six-month loan in January 2004.

Neves is one of Barcelona's primary targets, with agent Jorge Mendes reportedly offered his client to Xavi, and while Wolves value him at around £40million there is hope that a loan deal could be struck in the New Year which includes an obligation-to-buy clause for next summer.

Leicester ace Youri Tielemans is another target for Nou Camp officials, according to the report by Mundo Deportivo. The Belgian, who has the physical prowess to emulate Davids, is out of contract at the King Power in 2023, meaning Barca could land him on the cheap in January.
