Neville names Cucurella as the reason why Spain WON'T go all the way at Euros

Gary Neville has accused a Premier League player of being a weak link for Spain.

Spain, who have won the European Championship three times in their history, got their Euro 2024 campaign underway on Saturday as they took on Croatia.

However, Neville believes that the player in question is the reason why Spain won't go all the way on this occasion.

Despite possessing much Premier League experience, the player was making only his fifth appearance for Spain.

Neville also feels that many people remain astounded by the player's price tag.

Neville was critical of Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella.

Cucurella has endured some difficult moments at Chelsea since joining the Blues from Brighton for an initial £55million plus a potential £7million in bonuses in August 2022.

Speaking on ITV Sport, Neville said: 'He's not been convincing at Chelsea. He's played a few games towards the end of the season.

'He's aggressive, he's tenacious, he's a busy little full-back. The price tag still astounds everyone to this day.

'The Spanish defence, it's got a lot of experience now but there's something just missing from Spain that makes you feel like they're going to go all the way. I have to say that him being at left-back is a good example of why we think that.'

Cucurella was selected to start at left-back ahead of Alex Grimaldo and could have a prominent part to play at the tournament.

After facing Croatia, Spain will play Italy and Albania in their remaining two group stage fixtures.
