Brighton new boy Bernardo is confident they can bounce back from their opening-day defeat by Watford.

Two goals from Roberto Pereyra handed the Seagulls a disappointing 2-0 reverse at Vicarage Road.

Brighton's next two matches are against Manchester United and Liverpool but Brazilian full-back Bernardo, a big-money summer signing from RB Leipzig, insists they can pick up points.

'If we are able to put this result behind us and get either one point or three points in each of the next couple of matches, it would be something good for us,' he told the club website.

'The Premier League is one of the strongest leagues in the world, and especially against these teams, it's very tough to get one point or three points.

'We will go looking for that - getting points after this defeat to Watford would be a very good thing.'

Hornets midfielder Pereyra went some way to filling the void left by Richarlison, who later in the day scored twice for Everton against Wolves.

The Argentinian was unmarked just inside the area when he met a Jose Holebas corner with a sweet volley 10 minutes before half-time.

In the 54th minute Pereyra struck again, receiving the ball from Holebas and stealing in behind Bernardo.

Pereyra still had plenty to do as he drove into the area, and with the angle narrowing he curled a superb strike past Seagulls keeper Mat Ryan to double the lead.

Hornets boss Javi Gracia said: 'We played really well, not only with the ball but without the ball, with quick reactions after losing it. We played as a team.

'We need to improve many things. It's only three points but starting this way is very important for the club, the players and the supporters.'
