Steve Bruce is trying to bring in another coach as he attempts to reverse Newcastle United's slump in results.
Sportsmail understands Bournemouth's Graeme Jones is in talks over joining Bruce's backroom team.
The Magpies already have Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence, Steve Harper and Ben Dawson on the staff, but Bruce feels fresh input is needed after a run of nine matches without a win.
Jones, who was born in Gateshead, has previously worked as Roberto Martinez's assistant, most recently with the Belgium national side.
He was appointed Luton manager in 2019 but left the club last April with the team second from bottom in the Championship.
The 50-year-old then took up a coaching role at Bournemouth under Jason Tindall last summer but now looks set to return to his native North-East, should a deal be reached with the Championship club.
It is a sign that Bruce retains the support of Newcastle's hierarchy and they will back him in his efforts to halt a slide towards relegation.
