Newcastle United could consider signing Christian Pulisic away from Chelsea

The rumor mill churns around Chelsea and USMNT forward Christian Pulisic, as the American seeks more playing time.

In a mailbag Q&A session, The Athletic's Newcastle United reporter Chris Waugh said the club is open to the possibility of bringing in the winger if Chelsea give him their blessing to leave.

Per Waugh, Pulisic is being considered as a wide option, 'though the American may not be made available.'

That may be more due to Chelsea's lack of attacking talent than their desire to keep Pulisic in the starting lineup.

If you believe the rumor mill, then Chelsea are in fact open to moving the Hershey, PA born attacker.

According to reports from Italian outlet CMW, Pulisic was offered up by Chelsea in a straight swap deal that would see the American move to Roma in exchange for Nicolo Zaniolo.

However, Roma boss Jose Mourinho seems keen on keeping the young Italian, after stepping in late to block a deal which would see Zaniolo move for £40 million to Tottenham.

It seems that for the right price, or the right player, Chelsea would be ready to move on from a player that doesn't seem to have a set place in the starting XI, especially after the acquisition of Raheem Sterling this summer.

Additionally, reports from the Guardian say Tuchel does not trust Pulisic, who worked with him when they were both at Borussia Dortmund.

Despite his lack of trust, Tuchel may have no choice in the meantime but to use Pulisic as a bench option.

After the American's performance in the team's opening match against Everton, some pundits sang his praises.

NBC's Robbie Mustoe was one of them, saying he believed Pulisic should demand more playing time.

'Pulisic comes into the game looks lively, looks sharp,' Mustoe commented.

'He should be knocking on the door of the manager saying "how about giving me a go?" These other guys have had a lot of opportunities of late.'

Chelsea open their 2022-23 home campaign against Tottenham this Sunday.
