Newcastle are already in discussions over a move for Barcelona outcast Philippe Coutinho, according to reports.
The former Liverpool midfielder is currently on loan at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich but they will not be making the move permanent at the end of the season.
Coutinho is no longer wanted by the Catalan giants after failing to live up to expectation since his big-money move from Anfield in January 2018.
Tottenham have shown an interest in the Brazilian playmaker and even came close to signing him last summer before he eventually ended up at the Allianz Arena.
Carlo Ancelotti is also a known admirer and is keen to bring Coutinho back to Merseyside, while the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are weighing up a loan move too.
But the 27-year-old's most likely destination appears to be Tyneside, should their £300million Saudi-led takeover go through, according to France Football.
The mooted takeover, led by Mohammed Bin Salman – the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, remains in the balance as the Premier League investigate a myriad of issues linked to the Saudi buy-out.
Calls for the takeover to be blocked amid allegations of illegal piracy and copyright infringements – as well as human rights issues – are being taken seriously by the Premier League.
But there remains confidence that a deal to take control of the club from Mike Ashley will be ratified once top-flight officials complete their investigations.
The reports suggest that a move for Coutinho will be very likely should Bin Salman get given the green light.
However, Coutinho could once again be left in limbo if it falls through, leaving Barcelona with an extremely expensive player warming the bench once again.
