Newcastle 'offer Matty Longstaff new five-year contract worth over £20k a week'

Matty Longstaff has turned down an increased contract offer from Newcastle and is expected to join Italian side Udinese this summer, according to The Telegraph.

The Italian side have offered the young midfielder the chance to become their highest paid player on £30,000 a week - a huge increase on his current weekly wage of just £800.

After seeing Longstaff reject their previous offer of £15,000 a week, Newcastle reportedly upped their package to more than £20,000 a week in a bid to stop him leaving for free when his contract expires on June 30.

However, The Telegraph claim that those attempts have failed, and as it stands Longstaff will receive a large signing-on fee when he joins Udinese this summer.

Sportsmail revealed on Tuesday that the 20-year-old academy graduate had been in talks with the Serie A side and was weighing up his options.

Magpies chiefs had hoped that their latest offer would be enough for Longstaff, who has made 12 senior appearances for the club, to stay in the north east.

His preference was to stay at St James' Park, but it appears as though Udinese's generous contract offer and the chance to play regularly has changed his mind.
