Newcastle United are prepared to rival West Ham in the race to sign Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United.

The 24-year-old Paraguay international has been tipped to make the transition from the MLS to the Premier League and will leave in January.

The MLS though value Almiron at around £24million and that has proved an initial stumbling block to negotiations.

Arsenal and Tottenham have also shown interest in the attacking midfielder who can also play on either wing.

He scored 12 goals in 23 appearances last season and his agent Daniel Campos was at St James' Park to take in Newcastle's 2-1 win over Bournemouth.

His agent said: 'We saw Newcastle's party because we are in England. There are two or three clubs interested and we have been working in the UK.'

West Ham want an attacking midfielder to step in for Manuel Lanzini, while Almiron could also cover for Andriy Yarmolenko.

A proposed deal for Samir Nasri has so far faltered over personal terms and his lack of fitness though he may continue to train with the club West Ham are also among clubs showing an interest in taking Gary Cahill on loan from Chelsea in January.

However, they are reluctant to sell Marko Arnautovic despite the striker saying he may look to leave for a bigger challenge.
